Membership revenue helps USA Skimo grow the sport of ski mountaineering racing in the United States. An annual USA Skimo license is now available for purchase online. Once you have purchased the membership you will be provided a license number that will be required for registration of USA Skimo-sanctioned races.

Age Divisions

U14 – Shortened race course.
U16 – Shortened race course.
U18 – Shortened race course.
U20 – Full distance race course.
U23 – Full distance race course.
Senior – Full distance race course.
Masters – Full distance race course.
Recreation – Reduced distance/vert category. Recommended minimum combined weight of ski/boot/binding is 4500g for the pair.

Note: It is possible for an athlete to obtain points in their age category as well as podium in the open category (e.g. win the U23, but also place in the Senior/Open division).


Athletes will be assigned a membership division based on birth year. Age is determined on December 31, N+1, where the race year is N/N+1. The assigned division must be used during registration for USA Skimo-sanctioned events to determine points scoring of all sanctioned races for the season.
